At 5 PM on Dec 7, Verizon stores nationwide will be sites for protests over
Ajit Pai's recent actions on net neutrality. Protests in Atlanta will be at
the Verizon store on Peachtree Road. Details (

Paying a lawyer to draft a letter arguing that the loss of net neutrality will infringe on our first amendment freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right of peaceable assembly, and the right to petition for governmental redress of grievances by making it legal for ISPs to restrict, slow, or otherwise impede access to information based on content and/or source of that content at their sole discretion will have far more of an effect. Sending that letter to all congress critters will likely have an effect. Having a few thousand nerds, or even tens of thousands nationwide protesting will have no impact unless a clear line of legal argument makes it abundantly clear that ugly legal challenges of constitutional infringement will be made with a better than reasonable chance of winning.

Getting congress to do much of anything constructive seems unlikely so a protest is a reasonable last resort.

The black-outs by Google and other major sites a few years ago were
pretty effective at engaging people and killing of the pending
legislation {forgot what it was, some draconian anti-copying thing
IIRC}. Any hints of that emerging?

Looks like the protest is walking distance from my office (ATV) and the
buckhead marta.

If any one wants to come in early and beat the traffic let me know and I
can provide a warm place, snacks, and wifi until 5pm. Then we can walk
over together.

RSVP with the time you will arrive so I can book a conference room.

I counted about 50 people at last night's protest, about a half-mile South
of the Buckhead MARTA station on Peachtree Road. We stood on both sides of
the street and on the median chanting and holding signs. Someone had a box
of pre-printed signs to carry, and I saw a pre-printed banner as well. A
bunch of people brought their own. My favorite pre-printed sign read
"Please upgrade your plan to read this sign". I came away with one that
read "Killing Net Neutrality Harms Small Business". I liked the home-made
sign that read "Let Freedom Ping". We got a lot of honks and thumbs up
from motorists. Traffic on Peachtree Road at that hour is pretty horrific,
so folks had plenty of time to see us or ignore us.

WABE sent a reporter out to cover the protest. The treacherous GPB, of
course, couldn't be bothered. I saw lots of cameras, but I haven't been
able to find any pictures on the web yet. There's a good deal of national

Sorry Charles,

I did not see your request to stop by until just now.

I will be at Atlanta Tech Village this Friday so anyone wants to stop by
for the group lunch (few hundred people) send me an email (to make sure I
see it).

You have to pay for parking ($2/hour) but I will cover lunch ($10).
