Government = Amazon = Google = Microsoft = Apple .....
If Amazon gets the data, the government can get or intercept it.

There's a reason Republicans overturned privacy regulations on ISPs.

Oddly enough I got an Amazon Echo for free a couple of months back but it is still in the box in plastic.

However, you don't need Echo for this. Siri on your Apple Phone and Google voice on your Android are always listening.

Crazy people I know love Google and hacked a google thing to use voice
command to tell people are in the office. Like _I'm_ going to add my
name to that project...

Turns out my phone is well supported with the replacement for
cyanogenMod. Removing GooglePlay disables a ton of listening and
tracking ability.

Every time you stop a school, you will have to build a jail. What you
gain at one end you lose at the other. It's like feeding a dog on his
own tail. It won't fatten the dog.

I don't know anything about Apple, but you can turn off voice
controls/listening on Android and on Amazon Tablets at the system level.
Never saw anything that showed these settings weren't honored.

When Amazon pushed an update that enabled Alexa on their Fire tablets,
it was pretty clear they had and easy to disable.

Brilliantly simple!

Assuming, of course, the mechanical connection still disconnects the internal gear and doesn't just trigger a software redirect.

It could be worse. If it was made by a pharmaceutical they’d charge, $1,699.00 and justify it because of “research”.
