[ale] Notes on "90 Day Wonder" Mentoring

I've closed up the ale_lcthw repo but pulled the "90 Day Wonder" (90DW)
mentoring notes into a new repo:

https://github.com/LeamHall/90DW_mentoring

If anyone is interested in running a group feel free to learn from my
mistakes. That should enable you to make your own mistakes. :)

My December is reserved for "New Year's Dissolutions"; mentally cleaning
house from the past year and preparing for the next. If anyone is
wanting to lead a 90DW group now is a good time to sound off. I may do
one as well, not sure exactly on what though. Maybe Golang, or taking
another MongoDB class, or a Python class and working together on it.

21st Century C is a pretty good book. Not sure I'd use it to learn C from
scratch but it would be a great second book. Put it on your Christmas list.

Hey, maybe I should take a Look. I been writing C/C++ for a bunch of years
now, but your book might have some cute tricks I don't know.

I just finished a pretty fun Arduino software project (
http://github.com/lemgandi/BuzzWire ). Lookin' for my next Thing. Maybes
I'll branch off into Raspberry Pi Land.

To be honest, I'd rather do Ruby. However, Ruby is written in C and
provides connections to run C programs directly. That would seriously
motivate me to get back into C as well.

I never said I wanted to program in C, I said that K&R is incredibly good.

Speaking of K&R, anyone remember this story?

" Brian Kernighan has an automobile which he helped design.
Unlike most automobiles, it has neither speedometer, nor gas gauge, nor
any of the numerous idiot lights which plague the modern driver.
Rather, if the driver makes any mistake, a giant "?" lights up in the
center of the dashboard. "The experienced driver," he says, "will
usually know what's wrong."

Speaking of BK and crew, one of the conundrums that always gets me is C vs
Go. The former has user base and recognition. And underpins Ruby. The
latter builds off the lessons of the former.

Not sure which compiled language would be best to learn, if I had to pick
one. I'm a bit slow so "one" takes a while.

C. It's the basis for most everything. And mastering pointers is always a good exercise.

Anyone planning on running a "90 Day Wonder" effort?

If so, now would be a good time to announce your plan. It gives us time
to raid Amazon for our own gifts. :)
