From the problem you describe, I recommend using a Hirens Boot Disc. It
has a windows boot repair tool that will probably help.
Additionally, dd as djpfulio suggests is the way to image from iso to USB
on both Linux and Mac OS, and win32diskimager works great on windows.
You might also try more than one USB disk since not all USB disks are
created equal, and some will not work for USB boot.
